  • Description

    A birth abroad can be subsequently certified upon application to the relevant registry office if the person born abroad has German citizenship at the time of the application. The parents of the child, the child itself, its spouse, partner or children are entitled to apply.

    The registry office in whose jurisdiction the person born abroad has or last had their place of residence or habitual abode is responsible for notarization. If this does not result in jurisdiction, the registry office in whose jurisdiction the applicant has or last had his or her domicile or habitual residence shall certify the birth. If this does not result in jurisdiction either, the registry office I in Berlin will notarize the birth.

  • Prerequisites

    Subsequent certification of the birth is possible for

    • German nationals
    • Stateless persons, homeless foreigners and foreign refugees with habitual residence in Germany

    Eligible applicants are

    • the person born abroad themselves
    • their parents
    • their children
    • the spouse or life partner

    Notarization in the register of births: EUR 70.00

    Birth certificate / certified printout from the register of births: EUR 12.00
