Municipalities can stipulate in their cemetery statutes that a burial in their cemetery must be registered in advance. They are not legally obliged to do so. For the municipality as the cemetery operator, such notification makes it easier to collect the information required for a burial and to organize the burial dates and the use of the burial facilities.
Prerequisites
According to the Burial Act, deceased residents of a municipality are entitled to be buried in a cemetery in their municipality. The obligation to notify does not change this.
Deadlines
The respective cemetery statutes specify when the notification must be submitted to the municipality at the latest.
