On September 23, 2026, the new roundabout on State Road St 2246 was officially opened. With the improved access to the East Industrial Park and the new pedestrian and bicycle crossing, an important infrastructure project for the city was completed. The crossing improves safety and provides a direct connection to the bike path leading toward the Straßenwirtshaus.
The roundabout was built from June through December 2025. The connection to the East Industrial Park was subsequently completed as the second phase of construction by mid-2026. Planning and technical supervision were handled by Härtfelder Ingenieurtechnologien GmbH, while the construction work was carried out by Thannhauser of Fremdingen.
At the opening ceremony, Mayor Markus Liebich thanked all the participating government agencies, planners, companies, elected officials, property owners, and city employees.
District Administrator Marco Meier made consideration the focus of his opening remarks and wished all road users a safe and accident-free journey. The managing director of Thannhauser emphasized the importance of the contract for the construction industry and praised the quality of the project. Dividing the project into two construction phases made high-quality execution possible; the project also stayed right on budget.
With its official opening, the new roundabout is now fully operational. For greater safety, better connections, and a sustainable infrastructure in Leutershausen.
