Ultra-fast Internet for Homes and Businesses
The planned ultra-fast NGA (Next Generation Access) network will be built and operated as a modern, future-proof FTTB/H network—with fiber-optic cables extending all the way to buildings and residential units. Once completed, connected households will be able to access bandwidths of up to 1,000 Mbit per second (1 Gbit/s). For business customers, speeds of up to 100 Gbit per second are even possible. Currently, connections in Hannenbach, Neunkirchen, and Straßenwirtshaus are provided with speeds of 30 to 50 Mbit/s.
In addition to very high data rates, citizens and businesses also benefit from a significantly more stable connection and long-term future-proofing. Fiber-optic cables are less prone to interference than conventional copper lines and will be able to reliably transmit increasing data volumes and higher speeds well into the future.
Strong Partners for the Expansion of
On September 8, 2026, Dietrich Negrea, CEO of the Leutershausen municipal utility—which is implementing the project—attended the groundbreaking ceremony marking the symbolic start of construction on the nearly five-kilometer-long
civil engineering route. Also in attendance were Markus Liebich, mayor of the city of Leutershausen, as well as representatives from the city council and administrative board, the network operator bisping & bisping, the funding agency aconium, the consulting firm Corwese, and the construction contractor Max Streicher.
The board members and the mayor emphasized the importance of stable and fast internet in today's world. They pointed out that with the connection of these three neighborhoods, along with the expansion currently underway in the town center, virtually every household in the Leutershausen municipal area—which comprises 50 neighborhoods—will soon have fiber-optic internet directly to their homes. Few municipalities in Bavaria can claim the same.
The network operator bisping & bisping, based in Lauf an der Pegnitz, has long been a trusted partner for Leutershausen in broadband expansion: In past projects, the company has already successfully brought the fiber-optic network online in 34 neighborhoods within the city limits.
As the second-most active company in Bavaria’s broadband expansion, bisping & bisping operates fiber-optic networks in more than 40 municipalities in southern Germany and has a particularly strong presence in rural areas. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Susi Bisping, a member of the management team for the Broadband Networks division at bisping & bisping, emphasized the importance of the project:
“The availability of fast and reliable internet is the key prerequisite for ensuring that digitalization takes hold in our society and that citizens in both urban and rural areas can participate on an equal footing. Leutershausen will soon meet this requirement across the board—something that many municipalities in our state still cannot claim. We are very pleased to continue supporting the municipal utility—and thus the city of Leutershausen—as a trusted partner in this expansion phase on the path to the future.”
Funding and Financing
The fiber-optic expansion in the three districts is being funded under the federal government’s Gigabit Directive 2.0 through the so-called operator model. The total cost of approximately 1.1 million euros is expected to be subsidized by the Federal Government (BUND) at a rate of 50% and by the Free State of Bavaria at a rate of 25 to 40%. This leaves the municipal utility with a share of 100,000 to 270,000 euros to cover out of its own funds.
Information and advice:
Site inspections began as early as the end of July. During this phase, property owners work with the construction contractor to determine the route of the fiber-optic cable across their property to the house connection. This was preceded in June by an informational event where residents could learn about the project and the partners involved.
